Range Hood Installation Cost in Canada (2026)
By the Pixl Canada install team

Quick answer
With Pixl Canada, an under-cabinet range hood (30 to 36 inches) costs $140 to install, a chimney range hood costs $170 and a new exhaust duct adds $50, all before tax. The cost rises when a job needs a new duct run through a wall or roof, a new outlet or cabinet changes. The hood is bought separately, and you pay after the job.

| Chimney range hood | $170 | Installing a wall-mounted hood with a chimney cover |

Example totals
| Job | Install | New duct | Total before tax |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under-cabinet hood, existing duct | $140 | $0 | $140 |
| Under-cabinet hood with a new duct | $140 | $50 | $190 |
| Chimney hood with a new duct | $170 | $50 | $220 |
The hood is not included, and neither are new wiring, a roof penetration or cabinet changes. Our range hood CFM and installation guide covers the sizing and the steps.
What changes the cost
- Hood style. A chimney hood has a cover to fit and is priced higher than an under-cabinet hood. Broan-NuTone’s range hood style guide notes that under-cabinet hoods typically sit 20 to 24 inches above the cooktop and chimney hoods 24 to 30 inches.
- The duct. Reusing a clean, correctly sized duct is the cheapest job. A new duct is $50 with Pixl, and a long or complex run takes more time. Keep the run short, with few elbows, because every bend cuts airflow.
- Wall or roof. Venting through an exterior wall is usually simpler. Venting through the ceiling and roof means cutting through the roof and flashing it properly, which is a bigger job.
- Power. A hood that plugs in or connects to an existing supply is simple. A new outlet or circuit is electrical work for a licensed electrician.
- Cabinets. A different width or a cabinet that needs trimming adds work.
- Make-up air. Health Canada’s ventilation report explains that large exhaust fans can depressurize a home, and that fans of roughly 200 to 400 CFM and up need a way to supply make-up air. Rules vary by province and municipality, so check with your building department before you buy a powerful hood.

An under-cabinet range hood is $140 and a chimney hood is $170 to install, before tax. You pay after the job.
Ducted or ductless: how it affects the price
A ducted hood sends air outside and needs a duct. A ductless (recirculating) hood passes air through grease and charcoal filters and returns it to the room, so no duct is needed. The Home Ventilating Institute recommends hoods that vent directly outside and notes that recirculating hoods do not actually ventilate. Ductless is easier to install where you cannot run a duct, such as some condos, but it leaves moisture and heat in the room and the charcoal filters need regular replacement. Where to get a range hood installed
| Option | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| An appliance installer | A standard swap on a day you choose | Confirm what the price includes, such as the duct |
| The store that sold it | Delivery and install in one booking | Some stores install only what they sold, so check the terms |
| A licensed electrician | New outlets, circuits or wiring | Priced by the job |
| A contractor | New duct runs through a roof or a long wall | Make sure the roof is flashed properly |
| DIY | A like-for-like swap with the duct and power in place | Hoods are awkward to hold level while you drive screws |

Frequently asked questions
How much does range hood installation cost?
With Pixl Canada, an under-cabinet hood (30 to 36 inches) is $140, a chimney hood is $170 and a new exhaust duct adds $50, before tax.
Does the price include the range hood?
No. These are installation prices. The hood is bought separately.
Does a new duct cost extra?
Yes. A new exhaust duct is $50 with Pixl. If your existing duct is clean, the right size and in good shape, you may not need one.
Can I install a range hood without a duct?
Yes, with a ductless hood that recirculates air through filters. It is easier to install, but it does not remove moisture or heat from the room.
Do I need an electrician?
Only if the hood needs a new outlet or circuit. A hood that connects to an existing supply does not.
Do I need make-up air for my range hood?
It depends on the fan size and your local code. Health Canada notes that fans of roughly 200 to 400 CFM and up need a way to supply make-up air. Check with your building department.
Pixl Canada prices are before tax and were checked in October 2026. Your total depends on the duct, the wiring and the cabinets, so confirm it before you book.
