Wired CCTV or WiFi cameras?

Wired PoE (CCTV) cameras record to a recorder (NVR) and are the most reliable choice for larger homes and businesses, because they do not depend on WiFi. WiFi cameras are faster to install and suit smaller homes, condos and doorbells. We help you choose based on your property, your internet and how many cameras you need.

Wired CCTV (DVR/NVR)

More stable, and ideal for long-term use or larger properties.

WiFi cameras

Easier to install, and good for smaller spaces or rentals.

Wired CCTV system (NVR/DVR)

Free custom quote. We price it for your property once we know the layout, the cable routes and the walls.

What changes the price of a camera system:

  • How many cameras you need, and how far each cable runs to the recorder
  • The cable route: attic, basement, soffits or through exterior walls
  • Wall and siding type, such as brick, stucco or concrete
  • Wired PoE cameras with a recorder (NVR), or WiFi cameras on your network
  • Whether we supply the cameras and recorder, or install equipment you already own

Businesses and larger properties get a quote after a walkthrough, so every entrance and blind spot is covered. See Pixl for Businesses.

What's included in your camera install

Every Pixl camera install covers the full system: mounting each camera, running and hiding the cables, powering the cameras, setting up the recorder (DVR or NVR) and connecting the app on your phone. We can supply the equipment or install cameras you already own.

Before we leave, we walk you through watching live video and replaying footage. We work with brands like Hikvision, Reolink, Dahua, Lorex and TP-Link Tapo, and suggest what fits your budget.

Cameras for homes and businesses

Homes usually need 3 to 6 cameras to cover the doors, driveway and yard, while businesses need cameras on entrances, stock areas and cash zones. We size the system to your property, so you only pay for the cameras you need.

For your home

A typical home needs 3 to 6 cameras, covering the front door, driveway, backyard and garage. We plan each camera spot with you before we drill.

For your business

Restaurants, warehouses, offices, salons and more. We cover entrances, stock areas and cash zones, and can do a walkthrough first.

Where should security cameras go?

Start with the places people use to get in: doors, the driveway and side gates. Aim each camera at your own property. Our guide to where a camera can legally point explains the rules.

Front door

See visitors and parcel deliveries. A camera above the door or a doorbell camera works well.

Driveway

Covers cars and anyone walking up to the house, day and night.

Backyard and side gates

Back doors, gates and sheds are common ways in that the street cannot see.

Garage

Inside or outside, to protect vehicles, tools and bikes.

Business entrances and tills

Entrances, stock rooms and cash areas. We suggest a walkthrough first.
