Local know-how

TV mounting for every kind of Nanaimo home

Nanaimo’s older houses sit around the Old City, Brechin Hill and Harewood, while the north end from Departure Bay to Hammond Bay and Diver Lake is mostly newer homes. Downtown has a growing number of condo towers on the waterfront.

Old City and Brechin Hill

Many houses in the Old City Quarter, Brechin Hill and Newcastle were built before 1950 and have plaster and lath walls. We find the framing first and use plaster anchors (+$10).

Harewood and Chase River

Homes in Harewood, University District and Chase River are mostly postwar and 1970s houses with drywall over wood studs. That is our standard install, from $290 for TVs from 32 to 60 inches.

North end ocean-view homes

In Hammond Bay, Departure Bay and North Jingle Pot, newer homes often have a gas fireplace with a stone or tile surround. Stone or tile adds $50, and above the fireplace adds $20.

Downtown waterfront condos

Towers along the downtown waterfront have concrete and metal-stud walls. We bring the right anchors (+$50 concrete, +$15 metal studs). Check your strata rules before booking.

What TV mounting includes

Every job covers the same essentials: we find the studs or anchor into masonry, level the mount at the height you choose, hang the TV, check that it is secure and clean up. You choose the extras.

Choosing a mount

Fixed, tilting or full-motion?

A fixed mount ($70) keeps the TV flat on the wall at eye level. A tilting mount ($80) angles the screen down, which helps above a fireplace. A full-motion mount ($125) swings and extends for corners and open-concept rooms. You can also use a mount you already have.

Clean look

Hiding the TV wires

We hide TV wires three ways: through an existing channel for $25, in a paintable raceway for $60, or inside the wall for $99.50 with a fire-resistant HDMI cable. Power cords should not run loose inside a wall, so in-wall jobs use rated cables and hardware.

TV mounting in Nanaimo: questions

Labour for mounting a TV in Nanaimo starts at $249.99 for screens up to 31 inches, $289.99 for 32 to 60 inches and $309.99 for 61 to 79 inches, before tax. Our mounts add $70, $80 or $125. A 55-inch TV with a tilting mount and wires inside the wall is about $469.49.

For most TVs over 40 inches, yes. We find the studs or the right anchors for plaster, concrete, brick and stone, level the mount, and can hide the wires, so the TV stays up and looks clean. About half of the people who ask us for a quote already own a mount, and we install it for labour only.

A 65-inch TV falls in the 61 to 79 inch group, so labour is $309.99 with your own mount. With our tilting mount it is $389.99, and with wires hidden inside the wall it is $489.49. Add $20 if it goes above a fireplace.

Store prices and what they include change, so check their current price. Ours is on this page: labour from $250, and the quote form shows your exact price before you book. We mount on plaster, concrete, brick and stone, we can hide the wires, and you pay after the job.

Yes. It adds $20. We check the clearance your fireplace manual asks for first. Many north end homes have a stone surround (+$50), and a tilting mount ($80) or pull-down mantel mount ($70, or $110 motorized) keeps the screen at a comfortable height.

Yes. Concrete walls in the downtown towers need masonry anchors (+$50), and metal-stud partitions add $15. Smaller wood-frame condos are standard drywall. Most stratas have rules about drilling, so check with your property manager before you book.

Yes. Plaster and lath is normal in the Old City, Brechin Hill and Newcastle. We locate the framing, drill slowly so the plaster does not crack, and use anchors made for plaster. Plaster walls add $10.

A good target is the centre of the screen at seated eye level, about 42 inches from the floor. If the TV has to go higher, angle it down with a tilting mount. Our guide on how high to mount a TV has a chart by screen size.

Yes. Through an existing channel is $25, a paintable raceway on the wall is $60, and inside the wall is $99.50 with a fire-resistant HDMI cable included. Concrete condo walls usually mean a raceway rather than in-wall.
