Local know-how
Fort St. John is mostly detached houses: older homes near downtown, newer subdivisions on the west side, plus duplexes, townhouses and plenty of basement suites. Most walls are drywall over wood studs, which keeps things simple.
Houses around downtown and in Matthews Park are older and often renovated, with drywall over wood studs and sometimes panelling downstairs. A standard drywall install starts at $290 for TVs from 32 to 60 inches.
Sunset Ridge and the newer parts of Westridge have bigger homes, many with a gas fireplace on the main wall. We check the fireplace clearances and suggest a tilting or pull-down mount (+$20 above a fireplace).
Plenty of homes in Westridge, Matthews Park and around downtown have a finished basement or rental suite, which is where the big TV often ends up. Drywall is standard, and a concrete foundation wall adds $50.
Rural homes around Charlie Lake and toward Baldonnel often have a wood stove or fireplace with a stone or brick surround. Stone adds $50, brick adds $80, and mounting above the fireplace adds $20.

Yes. Basement walls are usually drywall over wood studs, but if the TV has to go on the concrete foundation wall it adds $50. If you rent, get your landlord’s OK before we drill. A full-motion mount ($125) is handy in a suite where the TV needs to swing toward the kitchen.
