Local know-how

TV mounting for every kind of Montreal home

Montreal is a city of plexes: duplexes and triplexes with brick fronts, plus postwar bungalows, condo towers downtown and in Griffintown, and newer homes toward the edges of the island. Walls change a lot from one block to the next.

Plexes and older brick homes

Duplexes and triplexes in the Plateau-Mont-Royal, Mile End, Rosemont, Villeray, Hochelaga and Verdun are often brick outside, and many older ones have plaster inside. We find solid framing and use plaster anchors (+$10), or masonry anchors on brick (+$80).

Postwar and suburban homes

Boroughs like Ahuntsic, Saint-Laurent, Anjou and Pierrefonds have bungalows and split-levels from the 1950s on. Most are drywall over wood studs, our standard install, from $130 for TVs from 32 to 60 inches, but some have plaster (+$10) or a brick fireplace (+$80).

Living rooms with a fireplace

Many houses and some condos have a fireplace wall. Mounting above a fireplace adds $20, and a stone or tile surround adds $50. We check the clearance in your fireplace manual, and a tilting mount helps with the viewing angle.

Condos and towers

Towers and lofts downtown, in Griffintown, Old Montreal and on Nuns' Island usually have concrete walls (+$50) or metal studs (+$15), and some buildings limit drilling. Ask your condo board before booking.

What TV mounting includes

Every job covers the same essentials: we find the studs or anchor into masonry, level the mount at the height you choose, hang the TV, check that it is secure and clean up. You choose the extras.

Choosing a mount

Fixed, tilting or full-motion?

A fixed mount ($70) keeps the TV flat on the wall at eye level. A tilting mount ($80) angles the screen down, which helps above a fireplace. A full-motion mount ($125) swings and extends for corners and open-concept rooms. You can also use a mount you already have.

Clean look

Hiding the TV wires

We hide TV wires three ways: through an existing channel for $25, in a paintable raceway for $60, or inside the wall for $99.50 with a fire-resistant HDMI cable. Power cords should not run loose inside a wall, so in-wall jobs use rated cables and hardware.

TV mounting in Montreal: questions

Labour for mounting a TV in Montreal starts at $109.99 for screens up to 31 inches, $129.99 for 32 to 60 inches and $139.99 for 61 to 79 inches, before tax. Our mounts add $70, $80 or $125. A 55-inch TV with a tilting mount and wires inside the wall is about $309.49.

For most TVs over 40 inches, yes. We find the studs or the right anchors for plaster, concrete, brick and stone, level the mount, and can hide the wires, so the TV stays up and looks clean. About half of the people who ask us for a quote already own a mount, and we install it for labour only.

A 65-inch TV falls in the 61 to 79 inch group, so labour is $139.99 with your own mount. With our tilting mount it is $219.99, and with wires hidden inside the wall it is $319.49. Add $20 if it goes above a fireplace.

Store prices and what they include change, so check their current price. Ours is on this page: labour from $110, and the quote form shows your exact price before you book. We mount on plaster, concrete, brick and stone, we can hide the wires, and you pay after the job.

Yes, for $20 extra. Houses in Montreal often have a brick or stone fireplace (+$80 brick, +$50 stone), and newer ones have a gas fireplace on drywall. We check the clearance it needs, and a tilting mount ($80) or a pull-down mantel mount ($70, or $110 motorized) keeps the screen at a comfortable angle.

Yes. Towers and lofts in the city have concrete or metal-stud walls, so we bring masonry anchors (+$50) or metal-stud anchors (+$15). In a rental, get your landlord’s okay first, since a mount leaves screw holes, and in a condo check the building’s rules on drilling.

Yes. Plaster over old framing is common in older plexes in the Plateau, Rosemont and Hochelaga. We find the framing first and use plaster anchors so the wall does not crack, which adds $10. On a brick wall we use masonry anchors, which adds $80.

Aim for the centre of the screen at about seated eye level, which is around 42 inches from the floor in most living rooms. Fireplace walls and bedrooms are different, and a tilting mount helps there. Our guide on how high to mount a TV has a chart by screen size.

Yes. We can use an existing channel for $25, put the cables in a paintable raceway on the wall for $60, or run them inside the wall for $99.50 with a fire-resistant HDMI cable included. On brick and plaster walls a raceway is usually the cleaner option.

Most installs take 45 to 90 minutes. Stone, brick or concrete walls, wires inside the wall and a soundbar can add time, and old plaster walls need a slower drill, so we give you an idea before we start.

We work 7 days a week, Monday to Saturday 8am to 8pm and Sunday 9am to 7pm. Same-day appointments in Montreal happen when we have an opening, so call or text (587) 899-7495 and ask.

You pay once the TV is up and you are happy with it, by credit or debit card, e-transfer or cash. Our technicians are licensed and carry $5 million general liability insurance, and optional extra coverage on the installation is available for 1, 2 or 3 years.
